Now, there wouldn’t be much point in loading this folder up with a lot of Loveless tracks and bonus-disc Ride material and so forth: most of you likely own and abuse that stuff already.  I was interested in curating a collection absent those titans of the scene.  I wanted bands that toiled in the shadows of those guys, groups that dipped their toe in the sound once or twice to incredible effect, acts that would later morph into A Place To Bury Strangers (that’d be Skywave), people who took the genre in weird and lovely directions: the unusual suspects.  Of course, I couldn’t resist throwing my favorite Cocteau Twins song on as well, if only because people forget how blissed-outedly perfect they were.

So don’t expect any Lush or Swervedriver or Chapterhouse or Swirlies.  Their legacies are sealed.  These are forgottens and up-and-comers and under-talked-abouts and fizzled-outers with effects pedals and something to prove.
